Then, when opening the second time I get the same option to open as read only. And now it works to open it as read only, and then I can change to write mode within LibreOffice.

If you're not using ODF, try saving in that format. I don't have a rationale for that, it's just that weird things happen sometimes with other file formats and ODF is generally safer. check is someone is a solicitor
