Tchaikovsky adapted the story for the stage and it was premiered in 1892. The Nutcracker Suite, made its initial appearance on disc in 1909 in an abridged performance on the Odeon label. Historically, this 4 disc set is considered to be the first record album. The recording was conducted by Herman Finck and featured the London Palace Orchestra.
